Dear American people,

With the recent barrage of news of about the latest scandals with the president and his administration, I am reminded of a saying my brothers and I would hear growing up:  Dime con quién andas, y te diré quién eres. If you punch that into your Google machine you’ll likely get as a translation “A man is judged by the company he keeps” or even “Birds of a feather flock together.” It’s not bad, but as with any translations, you miss a bit of the true meaning from the original language, which is more about figuring out who a person is, their essence, based on the friends and people they hang out with.

Give me a second to tell you an illustrative story.

About a decade or so ago I worked for a cable operator negotiating with media companies so we could carry their channels on our systems. Among the many networks I dealt with, I had an opportunity to re-negotiate an agreement with Playboy. I ended up hitting it off with my counterpart at Playboy, and on a trip to Los Angeles on other business, he invited me to visit the Playboy Mansion. It was a truly hedonistic place and pretty much what I expected except for one thing.

The games room included retro arcade games and a pool table. There were also two bedrooms off the games room – one that was kind of hidden, and a second whose entire floor was like a mattress. Again, given its reputation, not that surprising to find at the Playboy Mansion. I also noticed the names of various personalities from the last 20-30 years, I think on a board for high scores or winners. The thing that floored me was the name Bill Cosby, and I think it was on there more than once.

I mentioned Cosby to the Playboy rep, and he mentioned that Cosby and Hefner had been friends for years and he was a regular visitor to the mansion.

Like all of us he deserved his day in court, but guess what? I was not surprised by the sexual assault allegations and the recent conviction of Cosby. And I’m sure you feel the same way now.

So regarding Mr. Trump, with all that we already knew about him before the election – the bankruptcies, sexual assault allegations, womanizing, lying, the Access Hollywood tape, shady business deals – and what we have find out since – the Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal affairs, the investigation of Michael Cohen, the Russian collusion, ethic scandals, the continued lying –  none of us should be surprised by the next thing that breaks in the news.

Because there will be more.

It’s just who he is and will always be.

And like all of us, he deserves his day in court.

Sincerely,

Letters2Trump
