Dear women and girls,

Did you know that Merriam-Webster’s word of the year for 2017 is Feminism?

They define feminism as the “theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes” and “organized activities on behalf of women’s rights and interests.”

Here are my ideas, in the form of poetry.

A roadmap for feminism

take what you need

give back all you’ve taken

speak up

shine your light

spill your fire.

free yourself

find a moment to be

multiply your joy

quit waiting

for Prince Charming

he will only make you

for nothing.

the ball gown

only fits for a season

wear it now

explode the glass slipper

and the glass ceiling

the kingdom will be yours –

Autumn Trees #MeToo

Fallen leaves litter the ground

dried whispers of the past.

Sunlight softens

leaves that haven’t let go – yet.

Trees assert their nakedness,

every beautiful curve and blemish,

standing tall, unashamed.

A forest of women

armed with red flags and golden banners,

speaking their truth,

burls and knots

badges of their struggles,

courageous amid storms,

Let’s hear it for Feminism!
